Biodesign Futures: Teaching, Making, and Thinking Across Biology, Art, and Design

Paul Rubery

Paul Rubery

As biotechnology becomes embedded in everyday life there is a growing need for thinkers who can work across disciplines and critically engage with its impact. The Biodesign Challenge is an international initiative at the intersection of art, design, and biotechnology, bringing together artists, designers, and scientists to explore new ways of understanding and shaping the role of biotech in society.

Join us in conversation with the Executive Director of the Biodesign Challenge (BDC) to discuss what it is, how it works, and why it matters while opening a broader discussion about biodesign and education.

Paul holds a Ph.D. in Art History, Theory & Criticism from Stony Brook University. His research interests include adaptive educational systems, artistic responses to anthropogenic climate change, and the phenomenology of science. As a nonprofit administrator, Rubery aims to extend access to STEAM education and to advance the critical discourse around biotechnology. He has published in Journal of Visual Culture, Media-N, and Continental Philosophy Review.
